Did you know that federal law requires 34,000 immigrant detention center beds to be filled every day?
This policy, known as the federal bed quota, is the result of millions of dollars of lobbying by two of the largest for-profit prison companies, Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) and The GEO Group (GEO). It’s one of many examples of how corporations are influencing public policy to increase profits, resulting in increased militarization instead of prioritizing human needs.
Join us for a live-streamed conversation with three AFSC staff to learn more about how current immigration policies affect families, how corporations shape those policies, and how communities are organizing to stop for-profit prisons and detention centers.
